Arrest Sought in St. Maarten Gay Attack

Arrest Sought in St. Maarten Gay Attack

Monday, April 17, 2006

A gay New Yorker who was beaten with a tire iron on the Dutch Caribbean island of St. Maarten returned here to urge authorities to arrest the "well-known punks" who harmed him and a friend.
Journalists Dick Jefferson, 51, and Ryan Smith, 25, both New Yorkers, were outside a bar with several friends April 6 when three men attacked them. Jefferson, who said the attackers had yelled anti-gay slurs at his friends earlier that evening, has faulted local authorities for not speaking to witnesses the night of the crime or pursuing leads.
"The people who harmed us are well-known punks," he told reporters on his return visit to the island April 14. "People in the community know who these guys are. They are not talking to the police. The entire island is watching something bad happening."
St. Martin Chief Prosecutor Taco Stein said several people have come forward with information and his office was investigating the response time of police officers who went to the crime scene.
Smith and Jefferson, a senior broadcast producer for CBS' national evening news, were airlifted for medical treatment to Miami.
Jefferson, who has been released, said Smith was being treated for brain damage.
Justice would be served "if the men that did this are caught, incarcerated and prosecuted and if when I visit St. Maarten, or my friends that live here, tell me that they are not afraid to go out at night," Jefferson said after meeting with local authorities and the U.S. consul general for the Netherlands Antilles.

Local gay Internet site believed linked to the spread of HIV/STDs

Local gay Internet site believed linked to the spread of HIV/STDs

By Gary Barlow / Staff writer / April 20, 2006

At the urging of Chicago Department of Public Health officials, the City of Chicago slapped a cease-and-desist order on the Lakeview home of an online gay porn site April 20 after concerns were raised about cases of HIV and other STDs tied to the site's models.
Christopher Brown, assistant commissioner for HIV/AIDS/STD programs at CDPH, said health officials acted after uncovering "credible" evidence that models at FlavaWorks.com, which also operated CocoBoyz Dorm Room online, were HIV-positive, were engaging in unsafe sex practices and were spreading HIV, syphilis and gonorrhea through contact with individuals outside the business.
Brown said CDPH's initial involvement came in late December after HIV service providers called CDPH to express "concerns that some of their clients could be seen on the website engaging in unsafe sex."
"We also became aware of cases of HIV linked to some of the models," Brown said.
The business allowed members to go online and view models engaging in sex in a "dorm room" setting that was staged in an apartment at 933 W. Irving Park Road. The models were predominately black and Latino. Members could also pay more to have the models perform specific sex acts.
Chicago's Department of Business Affairs and Licensing issued the cease-and-desist order prohibiting the business from operating at the Irving Park Road location. Brown said CDPH Comm. Terry Moore also plans to issue a cease-and-desist order.
Brown said the business owner had been "less than cooperative" with city officials' efforts to stop the spread of HIV and other diseases and get CocoBoyz models in for counseling, treatment and testing.
"Our main concern was the dorm," Brown said. "Our goal is to immediately look at the models, screen them and address their needs."
By the time city officials and police showed up the morning of April 20, CocoBoyz had already cleared out of the apartment. A man who identified himself as Jackson Robinson, manager of the business, said he and the owner closed it because they knew the city planned to shut it down. Robinson denied the city's charges in a phone interview.
"There's no one HIV-positive in our dorm, so that's untrue," Robinson said. "The models also engage in safe sexual practices."
He said he felt the primary reason the city moved against the porn business was that it didn't have the proper license. He said he'd repeatedly been turned down for a license.
Brown scoffed at Robinson's denials.
"We had evidence and reports from what I would consider credible sources that there was HIV and STDs among the models at CocoBoyz dorm room, and unsafe sex could be viewed right there on the website," Brown said.
Brown stopped short of saying the porn models engaged in prostitution with customers, but said, "Yes, through our conversations, there were individuals who became infected through contact with the models."
There are also allegations that the business used unusual labor contracts with its models, which, according to one source, "at least bordered on illegal servitude." The 30-day contracts allegedly required the models to perform a certain number of sexual acts in exchange for a stipend. But, when the models tried to collect the stipends, they were told they were being charged for such things as food and bed linens, leaving them, in some cases, in debt rather than collecting money. They were then pressured to sign new contracts.
Robinson said the business, which dates back to 1999, is looking for a new home outside Chicago and will reopen "whenever we can be licensed and incorporated somewhere else."

Santorum supporter sells interest in gym to avoid gay boycott

Santorum supporter sells interest in gym to avoid gay boycott

J. Manuel Says: I'm not sure what to think about this topic. Let me know what you guys think. I gave you two articles about the topic.

The owner of a gym popular among Philadelphia's gays has avoided a boycott by agreeing to sell his portion of the business. A group of gay and Democratic activists had planned to boycott the city's 12th Street Gym to protest owner Bob Guzzardi's financial support of Sen. Rick Santorum and other conservative candidates and causes.Guzzardi kept the situation from boiling over when he agreed Friday to sell his share of the gym to co-owner Rick Piper. Piper said the deal, effective next month, came in response to the pending protest.Guzzardi declined to comment Monday. Piper declined to disclose details of their transaction.Santorum, who opposes same-sex marriage, angered gay rights groups in 2003 when he said states have the right to ban homosexual acts, just as they do incest, adultery, polygamy, and "man on dog" bestiality.Shortly after 5 p.m. Monday about a dozen people gathered in front of the gym, one carrying a sign that declared the area a "Santorum-free Zone." The proposed boycott had been organized by the Liberty City Democratic Club, an organization of gay and lesbian activists; Philly for Change, a grassroots group that grew from Howard Dean's 2004 presidential campaign; and Philadelphians Against Santorum, a group started by blogger Ray Murphy."We're going to keep an eye out" to make sure Guzzardi divests from the business, Murphy said. (Associated Press)

Republican Party article.

Mad Muscle Queens vs. Santorum Supporter
I got a chuck out of this earlier in the day, but I’m only just getting around to blogging it. You’d think that someone who owns a gym in a major urban setting would know his clientele well enogh to avoid pissing them off. For those who don’t know, set foot into a gym in a fashionable neighborhood in any major city and you’ll probably find that gay men comprise a significant percentage of the clientele. (Being a gay dad exempts one from that, but otherwise I think it’s a law.
But it took the threat of a boycott to for a Philladelphia gym owner, and supporter of Republican Senator Rick Santorum, to figure that out. Actually, I should have said "former gym owner."
They won the battle without firing a shot.
A group of gay and Democratic activists yesterday turned the planned launch of a boycott of Philadelphia’s 12th Street Gym into a victory rally after a change in the ownership of the business.
They had targeted the gym, popular in the city’s gay community, to protest owner Bob Guzzardi’s financial support of Sen. Rick Santorum (R., Pa.) and other conservative candidates and causes.
But Guzzardi defused the situation by agreeing on Friday to sell his share of the gym to co-owner Rick Piper, according to Piper and boycott organizers.
"In gay politics, we so rarely get to celebrate a victory, we didn’t know what to do at first," said Kelly Groves, cochairman of the Liberty City Democratic Club, an organization of gay and lesbian activists. "This is big news for us."
Naturally there’s a blogger behind it. At least one commenter suggests that the guy still owns the building, and will thus still be getting rent from the gym, so I don’t know if this counts as a victory. But as the spokesperson quoted above suggested, I dont’ blame the Philly gay community for celebrating their victories wherever they find them, big or small.

Targets of animal rights

Now this is something that really pisses me off. I will talk about this on my next podcast. Tell me what you guys think. To me this seems really similar to gay bashing.

Targets of animal rights group tell tales of terror

NEW JERSEY One woman said she received an e-mail threatening to cut her 7-year-old son open and stuff him with poison. A man said he was showered with glass as people smashed all the windows of his home and overturned his wife’s car. Many others said they were besieged by screaming protesters outside their homes at all hours, deluged by threatening phone calls, and sent pornographic magazines they had not ordered. The trauma that employees of Huntingdon Life Sciences and other companies say they experienced at the hands of radical animal rights advocates is on display during the federal trial of a Philadelphia-based group and six of its member son domestic terrorism charges. The trial continues in Trenton this week. Many targets testified that the harassment made them look over their shoulders when walking or driving, change their phone numbers or even move, and keep their kids from playing outdoors; it prompted several to buy guns. Sally Dillenback broke into tears as she recounted an anonymous e-mail that threatened her 7-year-old son.” The person asked how I would feel if they cut open my son, Brad, and filled him with poison the way Huntingdon does with the animals,” Dillenback said, breaking into tears. “That was devastating for me to see something like that.” The animal rights group Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty notes that its members are not charged with carrying out any of the illegal acts described in court, and denies inciting anyone to break the law. It says its activities were all legal and protected by the First Amendment. WAYNE PARRY Associated Press

Philly couple got N.J. gay marriage rolling

Philly couple got N.J. gay marriage rolling
PHILADELPHIA Louis Navarrete
and Ric Best never wanted
to be pioneers. They loved
each other, and they wanted
to make it official.
On March 8, 2004, in
Asbury Park, N.J., they did. It
was the first same-sex marriage
in the history of New
Jersey, and it put Asbury
Park into the vanguard of
gay-friendly cities testing the
waters of same-sex marriage.
The honeymoon didn’t
last long. Within hours,
state Attorney General Peter
Harvey proclaimed the ceremony
invalid and went to
court to bar the city from
issuing more licenses.
Nearly two years later, the
couple awaits the outcome of
a New Jersey Supreme Court
case they hope will make
their union legally binding —
even though they contend it
already is. Known as Lewis v.
Harris, the case was brought
by seven same-sex couples
who say the state is violating
its own Constitution by denying
them marriage licenses.
The two had been together
for 15 years when they got
the idea to wed.
Best was watching Ellen
Degeneres’ talk show on television
one day when the
news broke in with a report
about President Bush
announcing plans to seek a
constitutional amendment
banning gay marriage.
“It angered me, and when
Louis came home, I said,
‘Let’s get a license,’” said Best.
They went down to City
Hall, paid $28 for a marriage
license and waited the requisite
72 hours.
With Deputy Mayor James
Bruno officiating and a
dozen friends as witnesses,
they tied the knot in a City
Hall conference room.
Word spread quickly. Sixteen
marriage licenses were
issued before the state intervened.
For Best and Navarrete, the
little wedding quickly turned
into something else. Overnight,
they became folk heroes
in New Jersey’s gay rights
movement. JOHN CURRAN

Tulsa pastor arrested on lewdness charge

Tulsa pastor arrested on lewdness  charge
January 05, 2006

An executive committee member of the  Southern Baptist Convention was
arrested on a lewdness charge for propositioning  a plainclothes policeman outside a
hotel in Tulsa, Okla., police  said.

Lonnie Latham, senior pastor at South Tulsa Baptist Church, was  booked into
Oklahoma County Jail Tuesday night on a misdemeanor charge of  offering to
engage in an act of lewdness, police captain Jeffrey Becker said.  Latham was
released on $500 bail Wednesday afternoon.

Latham, who has  spoken out against homosexuality, asked the officer to join
him in his hotel  room for oral sex. Latham was arrested, and his 2005
Mercedes automobile was  impounded, Becker said. Calls to Latham at his church were
not immediately  returned Wednesday.

The arrest took place in the parking lot of the  Habana Inn, which is in an
area where the public has complained about male  prostitutes flagging down
cars, Becker said. The plainclothes officers was  investigating these complaints.
The lewdness charge carries a penalty of up to  one year in jail and a $2,500
fine.

Latham is one of four Southern  Baptist Convention executive committee
members from Oklahoma. He spoke out last  year against a measure, ultimately
approved by voters, to expand tribal gaming.  He has also spoken out against same-sex
marriage and in support of a Southern  Baptist Convention directive urging
its 42,000 churches to befriend gays and  lesbians and try to convince them that
they can become heterosexual "if they  accept Jesus Christ as their savior
and reject their sinful, destructive  lifestyle."

denomination. (AP)

The Anti Marriage Law (This is happening his month)

This is coming up this month. Take a look!!

Anti Marriage Law. This is very important. Everyone's rights are going to be violated. This new amendment will bar same-sex couples from marrying but also prevent the state of Pennsylvania from recognizing civil unions. The worst part of this amendment is that is going to affect common law marriages in Pennsylvania. You might be asking yourself why is this important, well, if enough states pass an Anti Marriage Law they can make they can make it a constitutional amendment. So please get involve it's simple. Please send a letter to your state legislator: Information is below:

The BackGrounder

(from a DC blk gay Yahoo  Group):

Backgrounder:  A local DC brother, Moe, has  been throwing 'sex parties' for
a number of years and even resorts to guerilla  tactics to discredit competing
parties by calling the police on them so guys  will come to his alone. Moe
has gotten into 'fetish parties' (leather, drag,  etc) and most recently got
arrested by the DC police. A debate has started on  why this guy is still
throwing sex parties, his responsibility to the DC blk gay  community, the spread of
STDs, and his nasty treatment of other party  crews.  So, his arrest has
sparked a hot debate among the DC blk gay social  scene.

Some of the responses:

WTF...Who keeps letting this shyt come  through...considering the so-called
party man was arrested thursday night down  on the stroll at 5th &
k.....lol...I knew it would only be a matter of  time....

moe use to be good but since he started wearing dresses  and doing drag show
he not doing anything.

Oh no, say it aint say?  Who is this notorious Moe  and what are the
notorious Moe Parties?  Don't know who he is...never been  to one of his parties but
the way some talk...sounds like its best that  way.....

LOL... he a drag queen that puts on sex parties?! That  is off the hook!
J

from what i can gather he was the only one in dc to  give sex party and it
became a staple but then his tude and his deamor to folks  really turned alot
folks away, he can be down right shitty if i can say that to  folks and then
want them to come to his house for a party.

from sources i talk to he would call polices on someone  else party and turn
them in just to not have anyone up against him far as  parties.

he diss the glory hole but always down there hanging  around.

I don't know muchh about what goes on in MOE'S house,  but if we are not sure
about what he does or what goes on,  We should be  the last person to throw
stones.  Pretty much all of us lives in glass  houses. Lord knows I really
don't want anyone to throw stones @ my house.   So in other words. we should not
be talking about anyone.  Just my  thoughts.

yeah,,,its true he was arrested...yeah its best that  way tht you stay
away.......

if he was arrested on thursday, why would you put his  business out there
like that?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!   that sounds like some  faggitiy bullshyt.

me too!  and u wonder why we can't get no where as  a people!

Sounds like competition in the men's  party business is
ruthless. There must be plenty money at stake.

Dam it got real hot on here for a min, I see Moe has  gone national.  Let me
say, I have never been to one of his parties, and  never will,  but I am very
aware of what goes on there.........Talking  about throwing stones? The CDC
came out recently and said that there has been  a steady increases in new HIV
cases within Black communities and an  increase in antibiotic resistant diseases
among guys who frequent sex parties.  There is one party in NY where the guy
puts a disclaimer on is web site to alert  people to this, well then we need
to be talking about stuff like  this.

Yes there is the element of personal  responsibility on the part of the would
be patrons but what abot these  predatory hosts who sit there and profit off
of mens weaknesses and desires for  sex.

Moe or whoever can do what ever they like in the  privacy of their homes but
doent these guys feel any sense of   responsibility to the community, I wonder
how many friends he has who have  died of AIDS or who is suffering from the
disease. To those guys  supporting Moe and the other parties, Do U have any
friends clinging to  life because of people like Moe?........ And I say again
these guys do have  a responsibility to themselves but U cannot overlook the part
this sex  parties play in destroying our community.

I can't believe some people are surprised  about a sex party going on - like
they never knew shit like that happens.  This is the internet and when that
man hit "send" he could basically say  whatever he wants about anybody. All of a
sudden people want ty come to  the defense of someone they don't know. That's
bullshit - this is America  where you can dayum near say, write and do what
you want to do. If the man  was arrested then it's a matter of public record
anyway. If he wasn't  arrested then the person that brought that info to the
table will be  dealt with - no need for us to think he is being any less or more
"faggety" than any other time. Calm down fellas and just read - if it  don't
affect you then don't worry about it.

CW

You are talking about the party.   those parties are no different than you
taking home a new guy ever darn  weekend.   also to the parties. you can treat
them as any other  business, if it is a store that you do not want to shop in,
Then  don't go there.   So boycott the parties.  Yes,  you can say that the
parties may play a large role in the spread of HIV..  But you know something
else.  we play a large role in it  too.. Why?  because a large number of guys
that is postive, does not  express to the other person that he is +.  So they
care on as if  they both are  -.

More responses to the  Debate:

dont need to do a camera or investigative  report.

i heard first hand from folks up in there, he does  supply condoms but most
dont want to use them, and i feel we shouldn't blame him  for provide a space
for dude to have sex in there, it's on the person who go  there to use
protection or not.

i get upset when folks want to blame someone else for  they mistake when you
going to point the finger at you and say hey i messed up,  just my opinion and
not calling anyone out if you feel so hit me up on the side  and we can
discuss it.

nevertheless his clients are mostly college students  and queens, yeah i said
it queens, some dudes in there but the rest are just  what i said.

kind funny he put up there no fats and fems but dayum  that is all that in
there.

yeah its plenty of money, also it's a place lot of  married dudes can go and
get sex and not worry if they get caught.

back int he day there was sex parties but not for money  it was free and it
was about that one thing not how it is now with the class and  restriction on
the door.

i was school in that by my Pops who told me everything  and let me know the
real deal in this business.

the party get really ruthless around the show(prides)  everyone giving one
and want that money.

hell you can give one for big boys and make like good  200 over the weekend
cuz big boys dont get that much love.

also the parties are way better then the club due to  you came to a sex party
and you know what it's about not the need for the  games.

I dont know what it is like to take some one home every  week end but I do
think having sex in a group in some "snake like mating  fashion" is very
different from having sex with one person at any one  time
I dont think anyone has a  responsibility to share their health status with
anyone before  intimacy.  The only responsibility anyone has to the other
during  intimacy is to protect the other person by observing safe sex  practices.
Safe sex should be a given anyway..........
I do not go to these parties so in a way I am  boycotting them.  I speak out
against them when the opportunity arises too  so in a way, I am boycotting
them.
I think our communities silence on these parties gives  the impression that
this is an acceptable lifestyle and they are actually  destroying our community.

i have heard and believe me you have a better chance to  get up in there then
me,

i have heard these things from his S/O who is a friend  of mines, why i can
come and say bad and say good.

but my beef with moe is his tude towards folks and how  he talk to people and
when someone help him out he want to piss off over which  he done to me.

i'm not here to slander him or say bad things i just  tell the truth, if that
being shady then let it be, but i was raise to tell the  truth and say what i
feel. not to kiss anyone butt.

i like what you said and can agree with that as well  Culokn4m.

at a time i was mad at him for turning me away but then  coming at me and
asking me to help him out i had to get on his about, but when i  found out the
real dirty one day from someone who was at show and told me he  dress up yeah i
ran with it and got my revenge.

yet now i'm in a different place, but i will tell the  facts from fiction.

This was sent to me by a gay male against gay marriage.

I received this email by a gay man a day ago. I'm not sure if it was meant as a joke or just a twisted sick game. Tell me what you guys think.

The Truth

Gay "marriage" does not just extend marriage benefits to self-identifiedhomosexual individuals: it redefines the definition of marriage which isbetween a man and a woman, being natural and benefiting society with thecontinuation of another generation. Homosexual behavior violates the laws ofnature and of nature's God. It was considered a "crime against nature" andis not a constitutional "right". To say that marriage between two men or twowomen is okay, the people (or the courts) are saying that a society of 100%homosexuals would be just fine, due to them being equally beneficial.Unfortunately it is not. A society of homosexuals would last 1 generationsince it cannot reproduce. If gay "marriage" was really about "equality for all", then the sameargument could be used for a 20 year old who would like to marry a 14 yearold. Using the same logic as used for gay "marriage", why should they bedenied the equal "right" to marry? By redefining marriage, we allow a numberof other perverted behavior-groups a similar argument as to why theiractions are justified and why they should be able to be married as well. Thepolygamist's in Utah have already filed suit, claiming the Lawrence V. Texasdecision (legalized sodomy) as their reason for legalizing their behavior. Many gay activist groups support man-boy love, with NAMBLA being the mainsupporter. In other words, the same groups pushing for gay marriage arealso pushing for decriminalization of pedophiles, making children become thenext homosexual target. Is this what we want to give our children? All ofthe main homosexual organizations push for LGBT 'rights' -PFLAG, GLSEN, andmany others, among them. The T in LGBT means "transgender", Transgenderismis a psychiatric disorder called by the APA, "Gender Identity Dysphoria", itis defined as: "Appearing as, wishing to be considered as, or havingundergone surgery to become a member the opposite sex." - Somethinghomosexual groups support. The fight for homosexual rights has been compared to the fight for minorityrights such as the black civil rights movement. This comparison here isflawed, since homosexuality is merely a behavior, and is self-identified.Those who identify themselves as homosexual cannot prove that they areinnately homosexual, unlike persons of different skin color. Skin color is avisible, defining characteristic that cannot change. Homosexual behavior issomething that can be copied, or changed, a person cannot be viewed ashomosexual unless self-identified as such. This is why many of theseself-identified homosexuals are now happily married in a heterosexualrelationship, it is merely a behavior. Have you ever heard of a formerAfrican-American? or Hispanic? This shows that the main argument thathomosexual advocates affirm is not valid---being "gay" is not an immutablecharacteristic such as race. Thus, they should not have specialprivileges/protections under minority status, since they are not alegitimate minority, but rather, a special interest group. There are nowmany ex-gay groups forming, of which even the N.E.A. now recognizes ex-gays(http://www.nea-exgay.org/). Other groups like PFOX, Parents and Friends ofEx-gays have sprung up. (NARTH specializes in helping homosexuals changefrom their lifestyle, and was founded by an ex-gay) The Bible supports thisclaim in Romans 1:26 "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections:for even their women did change the natural use into that which is againstnature"The public has not been properly informed on the negative effects of thehomosexual lifestyle. This is due to the majority of the public receivingits information through the newspapers and on television which censors orshows extreme bias against any opposition to this movement. To make theproper decision on a major issue such as homosexuality, the public needs ALLthe information. See statistics below for more information.Homosexual males avg. lifespan is only 43 years, according to the onlyknown study, conducted by Dr. Paul Cameron. (Note: gay activists trying todiscredit this study have failed to post any information of their ownregarding average lifespanwww.indegayforum.org/authors/olson/olson27.html).Only 2.8% of the population is gay, 1.4% lesbian*--20% of pedophile cases in the New York public schools are by homosexualteachers. (Homosexuality & pedophilia)--In 2002, Homosexual males held 78% of the total AIDS cases according tothe Center for Disease Control and Prevention (click here to view), whilemaking up only 2.8% of the population, according to the Human RightsCampaign Amicus Brief in the landmark, Lawrence V. Texas decision. *

Tulsa pastor arrested on lewdness charge

Christian Activists Denounce NBC Religious Drama With Gay Subplot

(Hollywood, CA) – A television drama about an Episcopal set to debut on NBC
next week is prompting protest from right-wing religious activists, in large
part because the show features a gay character as the priest's son.
The American Family Association is urging members to send letters of protest
to NBC about The Book of Daniel, which the group believes is not a favorable
depiction of Christian people.
The series centers on a priest named Daniel Webster and his family. According
to the AFA, Webster's family includes “a 23-year-old homosexual Republican
son, a 16-year-old daughter who is a drug dealer and a 16-year-old adopted son
who is having sex with the bishop's daughter.”
The show is scheduled to air Fridays beginning Jan. 6.
On Tuesday, GLAAD called The Book of Daniel a "witty and unconventional
family drama,” and applauded the show's gay character, played by Trick’s
Christian Campbell, as one of four noteworthy LGBT characters being introduced on TV
next month.
“This is an offbeat, inclusive series – inclusive of people of faith and
inclusive of gay and bisexual people,” Damon Romine, GLAAD's entertainment
media director, told the PlanetOut Network. “It doesn't surprise me that the AFA
would be afraid of this series. It shows a family that's both deeply
religious and loving and accepting of their gay son.”
Aidan Quinn, who plays the priest, called the series “wholesome” in an
interview published Tuesday by the Associated Press.
“I honestly don't think it's going to be nearly as controversial as some
people may now be afraid of,” Quinn said. “It just has the courage to deal with
some of the real issues that go on in people's lives.”
The series' openly gay creator, Jack Kenny, told the AP that the show is not
about religion.
“The show is about a family,” he said. “The fact that Daniel is a priest is
secondary. The church is the backdrop. This is no more about religion that
'Six Feet Under' was about mortuaries.”
